Home Captain was founded by Grant Moon to address the frustration he faced during his home buying process. Grant is an Army Veteran who served in Iraq and upon returning from service in 2011, decided to purchase his first home. Unfortunately the two most important members of his home buying team, the loan officer and the realtor, were not working together effectively to help him purchase his home. This resulted in a frustrating home buying process that was complex, disjointed, and time-consuming.
Not surprisingly, he discovered that the real estate industry had an average Net Promoter Score of -45. Looking deeper into this sector, he discovered that mortgage lenders only converted 2% to 4% of purchase mortgage loan applications. This leakage exists because the home purchase process is lengthy and homebuyers are often introduced to competing mortgage lenders with whom they ultimately close their loan. Conversely, loan officers often lost track of buyers that place their search on hold. Loan officers lacked transparency into the purchasing process and had limited communication with either the homebuyer or the real estate agent. This resulted in poor conversion rates to the mortgage bank and a terrible experience for the homebuyer.
Determined to improve the status quo for all constituents, Grant founded Home Captain, a technology-enabled real estate platform that helps shepherd prospective homebuyers through the home buying process. Through a concierge service team, Home Captain matches homebuyers with to a real estate agent in its curated network. The concierge rep acts as the liaison connecting the loan officer, real estate agent and homebuyer, making sure that all parties are in synchrony throughout the purchase process. Through the Home Captain platform, homebuyers have a better purchasing experience, real estate agents are matched with higher quality homebuyers, and mortgage banks are able to increase conversions on home purchase loans.
