Home Captain is a technology-enabled real estate platform that helps shepherd prospective homebuyers through the home buying process, giving value to both mortgage banks, and real estate agents while also delivering service and excellence to help the customers achieve the American Dream of owning a home.


Home Captain was founded by Grant Moon to address the frustration he faced during his home buying process. Grant is an Army Veteran who served in Iraq and upon returning from service in 2011, decided to purchase his first home. Unfortunately the two most important members of his home buying team, the loan officer and the realtor, were not working together effectively to help him purchase his home. This resulted in a frustrating home buying process that was complex, disjointed, and time-consuming.

Not surprisingly, he discovered that the real estate industry had an average Net Promoter Score of -45. Looking deeper into this sector, he discovered that mortgage lenders only converted 2% to 4% of purchase mortgage loan applications. This leakage exists because the home purchase process is lengthy and homebuyers are often introduced to competing mortgage lenders with whom they ultimately close their loan. Conversely, loan officers often lost track of buyers that place their search on hold. Loan officers lacked transparency into the purchasing process and had limited communication with either the homebuyer or the real estate agent. This resulted in poor conversion rates to the mortgage bank and a terrible experience for the homebuyer.

Determined to improve the status quo for all constituents, Grant founded Home Captain, a technology-enabled real estate platform that helps shepherd prospective homebuyers through the home buying process. Through a concierge service team, Home Captain matches homebuyers with to a real estate agent in its curated network. The concierge rep acts as the liaison connecting the loan officer, real estate agent and homebuyer, making sure that all parties are in synchrony throughout the purchase process. Through the Home Captain platform, homebuyers have a better purchasing experience, real estate agents are matched with higher quality homebuyers, and mortgage banks are able to increase conversions on home purchase loans.

Meet the amazing team that drives Home Captain


Grant is the CEO of Home Captain, a veteran-owned, technology-enabled real estate platform that helps shepherd prospective homebuyers through the home buying process, delivering value to homebuyers, mortgage banks, and real estate agents. Home Captain’s concierge team uses an algorithmic matching process to pair pre-qualified prospective homebuyers with an agent in the company’s curated network of over 30,000 participating real estate agents. The concierge team, comprised mainly of military spouses, acts as the liaison between the loan officer, homebuyer, and real estate agent to ensure that homebuyers successfully navigate the home buying journey. Through the Home Captain platform, mortgage banks are regularly able to increase their application-to-closing conversion rates by three to five times.

Grant is also the author of The Ultimate Guide to VA Loans, now in its second edition, the definitive book that veterans reference to understand the special home loan benefits they are eligible to receive. Over 1.8 million copies have been distributed to date. He is also the author of the newly released The Ultimate Guide to Home Buying.

Grant has also created the VA Loan Certification program for real estate agents, a program that educates and enables real estate agents to work with veterans in the home purchasing process.

Grant has a Mt.S. in Technology Management from Columbia University, a MBA from Babson College, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Endicott College.

Cindy Clarke is the Vice President of Operations for Home Captain Realty. Cindy has over 18 years of experience in Real Estate Operations and Service. Her specialty is streamlining business processes, identifying efficiencies, building enduring relationships, and ensuring clients have an exceptional service experience. Cindy’s prior experience includes Director of Operations at Cole Capital Corporation (VEREIT) where she oversaw all operations, client services, and Broker Dealer services. In addition, she more recently worked at CoStar Group, Inc., where she focused on managing a team that specialized in penetrating new foreign markets.

Cindy has a Master’s in Business Administration from W.P. Carey and a Bachelor’s of Science in Real Estate from Arizona State University.

Nazir has 16 years of leadership experience in client-facing data/technology environments in various business disciplines. His specialties include process improvement, business intelligence and data mining. In his last role at CoStar Group, Nazir was charged with developing a comprehensive data content strategy and leveraging the improvements in data quality and volume to improve the UX for CoStar’s commercial tenant product and creating an inception to delivery go-to-market strategy for a first phase Minimum Viable Product. He was also part of the strategic leadership team overseeing the acquisitions of Apartments.com and spearheaded the assembly of all contact and marketing data which drove a $100M marketing and sales campaign for Apartments.com. Prior to CoStar he was in charge of all client operations for a financial services startup company in Columbia, Maryland.

Lisa Sanders is the Vice President of Business Development and Client Management at Home Captain. She handles new business and oversees the client management team. Lisa has over ten years of experience in the mortgage lead gen industry. Prior to joining Home Captain, Lisa oversaw the licensing and syndication of financial rate tables for Informa Research Services. While at Informa, she negotiated multi-million dollar deals with companies like CNN and Google. She also held positions in account management and new lender sales with Informa as well as Lending Tree. Lisa attended the University of Georgia and when she is not attending sporting events for her three kids, you can find her between the hedges calling the Dawgs.

Peter J. Goodman, Esq., is a practicing attorney with over 19 years of experience focused in real estate law and business law with an emphasis on purchases, sales, and lender settlement. He is Corporate Counsel for VA Loan Captain, Inc. and the Managing Broker for VA Loan Captain Realty (VALC Realty). Mr. Goodman is a member of the Coalition for Excellence in Homeownership, the Long Island Housing Crisis Taskforce and a former member of the Long Island Housing Partnership’s Strategic Planning Committee. Mr. Goodman has authored feature articles for the Suffolk Lawyer, has presented for the Long Island Board of Realtors, the Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City, and has been a regular presenter for both the Nassau County Department of Homeownership and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island’s Hud-Certified First Time Homebuyer Education Training. Mr. Goodman is a member of the following Bar Associations: New York State Bar Association, the Brooklyn Bar Association, and the Nassau County Bar Association.

Scott Payne joined Home Captain in May 2018 after spending the prior 4 years at Velocify. At Home Captain, Scott is responsible for Sales and Client Management for Enterprise clients. During his tenure at Velocify, Scott was an Enterprise Account Manager, collaborating with Enterprise Velocify clients on the implementation, management of lead management strategies and lead conversion analytics to help drive a maximum return on investment. Prior to Velocify, Scott spent 10 years at Nationstar Mortgage, including time as a Loan Officer, Sales Manager, and Vice President of Originations Marketing.

Scott has a Bachelor’s of Science from Tarleton State University in Stephenvile, Texas.
